The NatWest Three have struck another deal in order to avoid repaying their former employers the whole amount they stole in one go.
David Bermingham, Giles Darby and Gary Mulgrew last week pleaded guilty to one count of fraud each in order to cut their prison sentences.
The three bankers’ guilty pleas were enough for the judge to only sentence the men to three years plus a month in jail.
Following this, the repayments of $7.3 million that the trio have to make to NatWest have been allowed to be staggered, rather than paid all at once.
NatWest’s first payments will amount to $500,000 from David Bermingham and Giles Darby and $250,000 from Gary Mulgrew.
Meanwhile, the disgraced bankers will pay $6.1 million, according to a UK civil judgement.
The NatWest Three are still waiting to hear from US courts if their application for a prisoner exchange programme is accepted, which would mean they could spend their jail terms in the UK.
