According to data from Thomson Reuters EMSR, the combination of NASDAQ OMX and NYSE Euronext represent 51.75% of all reported US equity trading in 2010 — almost five times the size of the next biggest exchange, BATS with 11.45%. The ADF reported trades reflect all of OTC reported activity including the ATS.
Additionally, the data shows that in global terms the combination would represent 33.66% of all reported activity in US, European & Asia stocks compared with the 22.38% share that the combination of Deutsche Bourse & NYSE Euronext represents.
The data comes in light of NASDAQ OMX Group and IntercontinentalExchange’s joint proposal to acquire NYSE Euronext for $11.3 billion today.
