NASDAQ OMX, NYSE Euronext Accounted for 51.75 Percent of US Equity Trading in 2010

According to data from Thomson Reuters EMSR, the combination of NASDAQ OMX and NYSE Euronext represent 51.75% of all reported US equity trading in 2010 — almost five times the size of the next biggest exchange, BATS with 11.45%. The ADF reported trades reflect all of OTC reported activity including the ATS.

Additionally, the data shows that in global terms the combination would represent 33.66% of all reported activity in US, European & Asia stocks compared with the 22.38% share that the combination of Deutsche Bourse & NYSE Euronext represents.

The data comes in light of NASDAQ OMX Group and IntercontinentalExchange’s joint proposal to acquire NYSE Euronext for $11.3 billion today.
