The Nairobi Stock Exchange has announced that the automated trading system (ATS), whose rollout began in October, will be fully operational on April 1, 2006.

The system will enable stockbrokers to trade from their offices and will be linked to the Central Depository Systems that was launched early this year. It will also allow market regulator Capital Markets Authority to monitor trading electronically.

Software vendor, Millennium Information Technologies of Sri Lanka, has been hired to train end users and NSE staff.

The NSE predicts the automation will create more efficiency and possibly more activity on the Nairobi exchange, as local brokers will be able to trade electronically from their offices.
