MEFF, the derivatives arm of BME (the Spanish stock exchange), reached the monthly record for futures and options trading in June with 11,081,270 contracts traded, 83% more than the same month last year. Futures on shares particularly stood out with 7,381,044 contracts traded, a 142% increase. Options on shares traded 2,128,532 contracts, 53% more than in June 2007.

At the half-yearly point, trading on MEFF exceeded 40 million contracts, an increase of 85%, with Futures on shares trading more than 23 million contracts, a volume which is greater than trading during the whole of last year, an increase of 209%.

On 20 June, the last day of trading for the quarter, Futures on shares, with 2.4 million contracts, achieved the record for the highest number of contracts traded in one day, pushing the whole exchange to 3.6 million contracts, also a record high.
