Marion King Succeeds Gordon Younger at Helm of BACS

BACS Limited, the UK’s automated payments clearing house, announced today that it has appointed Marion King as its new Chief Executive. Marion will join the Company in early September.

Marion King previously operated as Managing Director in Reuters plc where her career spanned 14 years to 2000. Her last position in Reuters was as Managing Director of Global Transaction Services where she was responsible for managing the global business of providing electronic systems to money markets. She oversaw the successful move into new market areas and the introduction of Internet based product solutions. Previous positions at Reuters included Managing Director East Asia and Managing Director for Business Information where she was responsible for creating new business streams outside financial markets. Marion’s most recent position has been as Managing Director for Europe of PeoplePC UK Ltd, a company that provides end to end business solutions for organisations to connect their employees to the Internet at home.

John Walsh, BACS Chairman, said: “we are delighted that Marion has joined at this exciting time in the Company’s development. Marion will work with the Board and the Management team at BACS to develop and implement dynamic business and IT strategies, whilst maintaining the excellent record of service delivery to our customers.”

The retirement of Gordon Younger, the current Chief Executive, was confirmed at the end of last year to coincide with the end of his current Service Contract. Commenting on Younger’s tenure Walsh said: “Gordon has overseen record business growth and transformed the service offered to Members and users, he has successfully introduced a major technology renewal programme embracing web technologies, which will completely re-engineer the Company’s payment process. He leaves with the business in great shape.”
