Marathon Asset Management, LLC has changed the name of its Global Convertible strategy to reflect a broader investment objective focusing on Global Equity from a convertible bond market-neutral strategy to a multi-strategy approach that includes convertible bond arbitrage, long-short, risk arbitrage and event-driven investing in the global equity markets in order to achieve absolute and attractive risk-adjusted returns.
Marathon has also expanded its global equity team to nine Portfolio Managers and traders dedicated to the Marathon Global Equity strategy, including two new portfolio managers who recently joined from multi-strategy equity funds. John Horng joined Marathon as the senior portfolio manager responsible for Risk Arbitrage from Thales Fund Management where he worked in a similar role dedicated to the firm’s global event-driven strategy within its multi-strategy fund. John Cregan joined Marathon as the senior portfolio manager investing in technology, media and telecom, utilizing fundamental analysis with a catalyst-driven long-short investment approach. Cregan joined Marathon from Man Financial where he worked as a senior portfolio manager in a similar role.
“Marathon has significant experience investing in both debt and equity with a fundamental value-based approach. We are excited to add strategies that select stocks from the long and short side that are consistent with, and highly complementary to, Marathon’s legacy in identifying special situations and deep value investment opportunities. Marathon’s knowledge base and vast network should also benefit us as we capitalize on risk arbitrage and event-driven strategies,” says Louis Hanover, chief investment officer and founding partner, Marathon.
“We are delighted that John Horng and John Cregan have decided to join the Marathon team. John Horng has an outstanding track record in managing merger arbitrage and event-driven strategies, while John Cregan has proven himself to be both an astute investor and a disciplined risk manager in the TMT sectors. Marathon’s two most recent hires further strengthen our equity portfolio management team and will support our heightened focus on multi-strategy equity investing. We look forward to continuing to build out Marathon’s long-short equity business in the coming months,” adds Jamie Raboy, managing director for equities, Marathon.
