International private investment firm Bain Capital has lost one of its managing directors, Junichi Shiroshita, to Bank of America-Merrill Lynch.

According to reports, Shiroshita will be a managing director at Merrill Lynch’s investment banking operations in Japan.

In an internal memo obtained by Bloomberg, co-heads of corporate and investment banking in Asia-Pacific Jiro Seguchi and Jayanti Bajpai told employees that Shiroshita will focus on the automobile, machinery and pharmaceutical industries.

Before joining Bain Capital, Shiroshita headed the general industry group at Morgan Stanley. There he worked on a number of high-profile transactions including DaimlerChrysler AG’s capital alliance with Mitsubishi Motors Corp, before leaving to help set up Bain’s Japan operations in 2006.

Shiroshita’s departure leaves two managing directors, Yuji Sugimoto and David Gross-Loh, at Bain Capital’s Tokyo Office.

Bank of America completed its acquisition of Merrill Lynch on 1 January this year.
