New guidelines intended to liberalize securities lending and short selling in Malaysia are expected from the country’s stock exchange operator next week, according to a report.

The Star reported CEO Datuk Tajuddin Atan of Bursa Malaysia as saying that the Bursa was planning to expand the list of securities eligible for short selling to 171 from 100 currently.

Short selling was first introduced in the country in 2007 although on a restricted basis.
