Leaders In Custody Winners: Make mine a double

Half a dozen major custodian banks take home double honours or more from Global Custodian’s Leaders in Custody awards.

By Joe Parsons

Citi, Deutsche Bank and HSBC were among those who scooped multiple honours from Global Custodian’s annual Leaders in Custody awards 2018 in London.

BNP Paribas, SIX Securities Services and Mizuho Bank also took home two or more awards apiece from the night at the Savoy hotel, as a packed-out room celebrated the achievements of the industry over the past 12 months.

Elsewhere, Global Custodian handed its first ever award to LCH for Best Innovation in Market Infrastructure, following the introduction of CustodialSeg, a new direct collateral account for asset managers.

In perhaps the most comprehensive victory of the night, Piraeus Bank’s relationship management and client service scores from our annual surveys saw it far ahead of the competition in the Agent Banks in Major Markets category.

Our inaugural Custody Deal of the Year prize went to Deutsche Bank for its custody mandate granted by State Street, marking a significant win for the German bank and its TARGET2 Securities strategy.

In the publications biggest awards ceremony to-date, Pervaiz Panjwani, head of custody and fund services, EMEA at Citi also scooped the coveted Industry Person of the Year award after more than 6,000 were cast during the day of the event.

It was a night to celebrate for individuals as well, with new inductees entering the Global Custodian hall of fame from HSBC, JP Morgan, Clearstream and Citi.

Industry veteran Margaret Harwood-Jones, global head of securities services, transaction banking, Standard Chartered received the lifetime achievement award for her services to the market.

A list of all the winners and nominees are on the following pages, congratulations to all those involved.
