The Lloyds markets charitable efforts were honoured at the Insurance Day awards in London on Thursday 4th December when Lloyds Charity Challenge won the Charitable Initiative of the Year prize.

The month-long charity competition was praised for creating a unique and innovative event to engage the Lloyds market and raising 250,000 for Lloyds Charities Trusts three partner charities; Samaritans, Coram and FARM-Africa.

Organised by Lloyds Community Affairs team, the challenge featured eleven teams from the Lloyds market who raised money through various fundraising activities including weekly challenges such as a donut eating competition and selling rides in classic cars. Lloyds charity teams Beazley, Argenta Syndicate Management and Lloyds Capital and Market Reserves supported Samaritans and raised a total of 80,000 for the charity.

We are incredibly grateful for all our teams fundraising efforts. I cant think of a better way to raise 80,000 core funding whilst boosting awareness of Samaritans service in the City, says Samaritans Suki Dale. Thank you to the Lloyds Community Affairs team for this inspired event.

Lloyds Charity Challenge was a wonderful example of what the combined energy and ingenuity of the Lloyds market can achieve, says Graham White, chairman of Lloyds Charities Trust. We were extremely impressed by the commitment of the eleven teams from the Lloyds market and its great that this is now recognised with the Insurance Day Charitable Initiative of the Year Award.

The teams that took part in the month long competition were Alsford Page & Gems, Argenta Syndicate Management, Beazley, Canopius, Chaucer Syndicates, Hiscox, Liberty Syndicates, Lloyd’s Market Operations & North America, Lloyd’s Market Reserving & Capital, Marketform and Willis.

The funds raised by the teams supporting Samaritans in the Lloyds Charity Challenge will enable the charity to reach out to more people in need of emotional support 24 hours a day, especially in these times of economic crisis.
