Katherine Garrett-Cox will succeed Gerry Holtham as chief investment officer (CIO) at Morley Asset Management, on his retirement in 2004. She will also be appointed to the Morley board.

Garrett-Cox was most recently chief investment officer at Aberdeen Asset Management. She will join Morley early in 2004 in advance of Holtham’s departure to ensure a smooth hand over.

“This is great news that we can welcome Katherine to Morley at an important time in our development,” says Keith Jones, chief executive officer of Morley Fund Management. “We always said it would not be easy to find someone of the calibre of Gerry to take over the baton in terms of the CIO position. Gerry was a key player in the founding of the business and in particular he has been instrumental in developing our investment philosophy and process. His legacy is the solid foundation at the core of our company which will enable us to foster our future growth. With this sound platform in place, Morley is well placed to maximise Katherine’s drive and talents, particularly her broad management skills and extensive industry experience, in the pursuit of our strategic goals.”

Katherine Garrett-Cox herself added: “I’m delighted to have the opportunity to join Morley. I have been extremely impressed by the calibre of the senior management team and look forward to working with them. I believe that Morley possesses both the vision and focus required to become a truly world class fund management group and I welcome the opportunity to contribute to this exciting challenge.”

Before joining Aberdeen, Garrett-Cox was head of North American equities at Hill Samuel Investment Management where she worked from 1993-2000.
