One of the side-effects of the merger between J.P. Morgan and Bank One is the creation of a giant mutual fund management company with over $205 billion in assets – enough to make it the fourth biggest US fund manager, says Lipper. J.P. Morgan also has a 45 per cent stake in American Century Investments, a mutual fund group with another $80 billion under management. The three biggest U.S. mutual fund firms by assets are Fidelity Investments, Vanguard Group and American Funds, says Lipper. The JP Morgan and Bank One funds are expected to be united as a single brand.
