Olympia Capital, the hedge fund administrator, has hired John M. Budzyna as Chief Executive Officer, a new position. Budzyna will also serve as Senior Consultant and Global Strategist to Bemuda-based Olympia Capital.

Budzyna was until recently a Senior Partner in the New York Financial Services Office of Ernst & Young, and was a member of the firm’s Worldwide Alternative Investment Management Council.

During his thirty-year career, Budzyna has been active in a wide range of financial services businesses, including hedge funds and other alternative investment entities, and is well-recognized as a spokesman for and consultant to the alternative investment management industry.

As CEO of OCA, Budzyna will be responsible for implementing the company’s growth strategy and further strengthening its service offerings. he will work closely with Barbara Lewnowski, Senior Vice President and Principal of Olympia.

“John Budzyna has long been regarded as one of the most knowledgeable, insightful and innovative advisors to hedge funds and the financial services industry,” says Barbara Lewnowski. “While his career has been centered on public accounting, his experience is much broader, encompassing mission-critical technology and a wide spectrum of other fund administration disciplines. Even more importantly, he is deeply respected in our industry for his integrity and upstanding character. John is the ideal executive to lead Olympia as we continue to refine our service offering and grow our business. All of us at Olympia and our clients are fortunate that he has chosen to continue his extraordinary career with us.”

Budzyna says he is excited about the opportunity. “In a relatively short amount of time, the people of Olympia have created a dynamic hedge fund administration business with extraordinary growth potential given its outstanding service offerings,” he says. “In an era of heightened scrutiny, Olympia’s independence from financial institutions offering other hedge fund services is an important distinguishing characteristic for institutional capital looking for security and independence in the hedge fund sector. I was particularly drawn to the company’s entrepreneurial spirit, which is evident from the active involvement of the principals in all aspects of operations, business development and, most significantly, client service. I look forward to working with Barbara Lewnowski, the rest of the OCA team and our outstanding client base to achieve our shared objectives.”

Budzyna began his career with Arthur Andersen in 1974 and was admitted as a partner in 1986. He joined Ernst & Young as a Senior Partner in June 2002. He received a B.A. in Economics from Dickinson College, is a CPA in the State of New York and is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Budzyna also serves as Chairman of the Accounting and Tax Committee for the Wall Street Hedge Fund Forum. He is currently a Director and Treasurer of Hedge Funds Care, a charity focused on assisting abused children. He has been a featured speaker at alternative investment events throughout the world and has written a number of articles for leading industry publications.
