Mitsubishi UFJ Asset Management (MUAM), one of Japans leading asset managers with 7.6 trillion of assets under management and a group company of Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, has successfully implemented the Charles River Investment Management System (Charles River IMS) to automate its front- and middle-office international fixed income investment operations.

MUAM users will benefit from Charles Rivers enhanced decision support, streamlined trade order management, and real-time pre- and post-trade compliance monitoring on a single integrated platform.

The implementation completes Phase One of a larger MUAM initiative to incorporate all of the asset managers fixed income investment operations onto the Charles River IMS platform. Charles Rivers technology strategy for MUAM included deploying the Japanese MSSQL Server 2000 on a Fault Tolerant server. Charles Rivers service-oriented architecture simplified interfaces with MUAMs existing data warehouse (JITA) and local Japanese accounting systems and market data providers.

“This project was critical to MUAMs strategic direction, and Charles Rivers experts delivered successfully. With Charles River IMS, we now have a best-of-breed straight-through processing solution that has delivered significant cost savings by streamlining front- and middle-office processes for our international fixed income operations. We look forward to future implementation of Charles River IMS for our domestic fixed income business as well,” says Takayuki Shimosato, director of the board, Mitsubishi UFJ Asset Management.

“Charles River IMS is a proven multi-asset class system for larger firms with stringent local requirements. Charles River invests more R&D on front- office technology than any other investment management system provider. This commitment allows us to deliver products and services that help clients excel in Japans demanding marketplace, and we now support more than 20 client firms in Japan through our Tokyo office,” adds Cameron Field, managing director, Asia Pacific, Charles River Development.
