The Japanese Ministry of Finance says long-dated JGB issuance will start in earnest in October. Twenty-year JGBs will be issued at a rate of Yen 5.4 trillion a month, up from the current Yen 4.8 trillion every other month. The Ministry argues that increased issuance will improve liquidity at the long end of the JGB market, and helping pension funds match long dated liabilities with long dated assets, but it will also facilitate hedging long dated swaps.
