James R. Hedges IV – the founder, President, and Chief Investment Officer of LJH Global Investments, a Florida-based investment advisory firm that helps clients select and invest in hedge funds – has written a book about hedge funds.
HEDGES ON HEDGE FUNDS: How to Successfully Analyze and Select an Investment (Wiley; October 2004; $49.95; OLE_LINK4 0471625108) aims, in its own words, to “remove the veil of secrecy that surrounds the long-hidden world of hedge funds … Along with being one of the hottest investments around, hedge funds are also among the most secretive. Forbidden by law from engaging in any form of public solicitation for new clients, hedge funds generally sell through private introductions and existing relationships, and often refuse to reveal their market-beating techniques and strategies even to their own investors.”
The book aims to address the specifics of hedge fund investing, including how to find and invest in them, offer a thorough overview of hedge fund investment strategies, and pinpoint four vital elements for choosing the right fund manager. It also details the hedge fund advantage, including attributes that set hedge funds apart from other investment vehicles and help provide valuable diversification to any standard investment portfolio. The publishers say investors will also benefit from a discussion of the types of hedge fund strategies.
