J.P. Morgan has hired Michael Fitzgerald, former head of U.S. prime brokerage sales at Morgan Stanley, to be managing director and senior member of its North American Prime Brokerage team, according to an internal company memo sent Friday and seen by Global Custodian.

The memo was sent to employees this morning by Jeff Bosland, head of Americas sales and marketing for the firms equities business, and Lou Lebedin, global head of prime brokerage.

Fitzgerald will be responsible for attracting new hedge fund clients and maintaining relationships with those the firm currently does business with, according to a source with knowledge of the appointment. He will report to Paul Brannan, head of North American prime brokerage sales at J.P. Morgan.

Before his prime brokerage role at Morgan Stanley, Fitzgerald was in cash sales at Morgan Stanley and Deutsche Bank.

Adding Mike to our team is another way we are continuing to deepen our existing client relationships globally while cultivating new ones, Bosland and Lebedin wrote in the jointly released memo.
