Dutch-based fund administrator Intertrust has hired a new sales executive for its UK fund services business, as it focuses on winning new illiquid alternatives clients.

Edwin Chan joins Intertrust as head of UK business development for their fund’s division, where he will be responsible for building and maintain relationships with prospective clients and intermediaries, as well as leading sales activity and developing new business opportunities.

Chan joins from Northern Trust where he most recently a senior vice president of business development, where he led sales for the private equity and real estate fund sector within EMEA.

He was previously a senior director at SS&C GlobeOp, a senior vice president of fund services at HSBC Alternatives Fund Services in Hong Kong, and had also spent five years at Wells Fargo Global Services in a variety of roles, including global head of fund accounting.

“He [Chan] has significantly proven his ability to devise and drive business development initiatives for private equity, private debt, real estate and the infrastructure funds sector across the EMEA region, and his in-depth understanding of the regulatory environment and private markets funds make him ideally suited to the role,” said Patrick O’Brien, global head of funds, Intertrust.

The appointment caps off a year of significant growth for Intertrust, which over the past 12 months has hired several hire profile fund services experts to expand its businesses.

These include O’Brien, who joined in May after three years at Citi’s head of fund services and business development for Ireland and Luxembourg. Intertrust also recruited Ian Lynch, the former global head of alternatives investors at BNP Paribas Securities Services, as its new chief commercial officer.

In June, Intertrust also acquired Viteos, a leading technology provider for the alternatives funds industry, for $330 million.

The culmination of these achievements subsequently earned Intertrust the Fund Administration: One to Watch honour at the Global Custodian Industry Leaders awards in November 2019.
