International law firm Maples and Calder has appointed six new associates across its key practice areas and promoted finance and capital markets specialist Stacey Overholt to the partnership.

The firm expects to announce a further two new appointments in the next few weeks.

The total number of fee earners in the London office rises to 18, making Maples and Calder’s office the largest of any offshore law firm in London. The firm is set to continue its aggressive recruitment drive throughout 2007.

Newly promoted partner Stacey Overholt joined the capital markets practice of Maples and Calder in the Cayman Islands in 2000 and joined the London office in 2006. She has wide ranging experience in all aspects of structured finance and capital markets transactions including CDOs, securitisations and repackagings. Stacey works closely with London head of capital markets, Shaun Denton, advising clients on structured finance transactions globally.

The new associates are former Ogier funds lawyer Oliver Godwin; Nabarro corporate lawyer Jack Marriott; Conyers Dill & Pearman trusts lawyer Robert Drysdale; New Zealand firm Buddle Findlay’s banking and finance lawyers Sarah MacLachlan and Jessica Stock; and Kensington Swan corporate lawyer Mathew Bishop.

“London’s pre-eminence as a global financial centre makes it one of the firm’s key markets,” says London Managing Partner Charles Jennings. “The office has grown steadily since it opened a decade ago, however in the last 12 months we have seen a significant surge in demand and have responded to meet our clients’ needs. Stacey’s promotion and the new associate hires are a crucial part of our future growth strategy in London. Stacey’s expertise and the high calibre of the associates will ensure that the London office is fully resourced to meet our client’s demands for global offshore legal services.”
