Goldman Sachs’ head of Indian infrastructure investment, Akshaya Prasad, has left the firm and joined investment company Greater Pacific Capital as co-head of their Indian business.

Prasad spent nine years at Goldman Sachs in London and Mumbai. Most recently he set up the firm’s infrastructure investment business in India and was part of the senior team responsible for managing the $6.5 billion global infrastructure fund. He will now be based at GPC’s Mumbai office.

“Akshaya’s appointment strengthens our team and reiterates our commitment to growing the business in India,” says Ketan Patel, CEO and founder partner of GPC. “His investment banking and private equity background along with his global network of relationships will be a great asset to GPC as well as our investee companies.”

“Notwithstanding the global nature of the financial crisis, the business model for making unleveraged growth capital investments in India and China remains intact,” says Prasad.

GPC, founded by three former Goldman Sachs senior investment bankers, has offices in London, Mumbai and the Cayman Islands. The firm primarily invests in equity or equity-related securities in Indian and Chinese companies.
