HSBCs Equities and Prime Services units have furthered their expansion in the Asia Pacific region with several key hires as part of a continued commitment to build the Global Banking and Markets divisions Equities franchise.
Five senior executives are joining the Asia Pacific Equities team. Tim Franks joins as head of Equity Sales, Hong Kong. Franks was formerly a managing director and head of Hedge Fund Sales at Bank of China International. He previously worked in hedge fund sales coverage at Citibank.
Jeffrey Tan joins as a director in Equity Sales, based in Hong Kong and also reporting to Brad Schwartz. Tan joins from Nomura in Hong Kong, where he was an executive director in Hong Kong and China Sales. Before Nomura, he was an equity analyst for more than nine years at Credit Suisse.
Eric Ang joins as a director in Equity Sales Trading, based in Hong Kong and reporting to Jefferson Saunders, head of Sales Trading and Customized Execution Services for Asia Pacific. Ang was previously at Samsung Securities, where he covered Hong Kong and China equity trading, as well as regional markets. He has worked in the equity markets for 17 years, with 10 years of institutional investment experience at T Rowe Price and BAM Investments.
Russell Jacobsen joint as a director in Equity Sales Trading, based in Hong Kong and also reporting to Jefferson Saunders. Jacobsen joins from Samsung Securities, where he was head of Regional Sales Trading and Execution. Before Samsung, he worked at Deutsche Bank in both Hong Kong and New York.
Edward Yen joins as a director in Taiwan Equity Sales, based in Taipei and reporting to Colleen Chang, head of Taiwan Equity Sales. Yen was previously an equity analyst at Goldman Sachs in Taipei covering the upstream technology sector. He also worked as a technology analyst at UBS for more than three years, and was a Taiwan sales specialist at UBS for two years before that.
Sine 2010, HSBC has focused on growing its Asia Pacific Prime Services platform, including Equity Finance, to around 40 people. The team is led by Melvyn Ford, who was appointed head of Prime Services, Asia Pacific, in May this year.
The bank has made several other appointments in the region. Jean-Paul Linschoten joins as a director in Prime Services Sales, based in Hong Kong and reporting to Matt Kiraly, head of Prime Services Sales for Asia Pacific. Linschoten joins from UBS in New York. Before joining UBS in 2011, he worked at JP Morgan in New York and, previously, for 10 years in Hong Kong, where he was responsible for Global Delta One Marketing, Structuring and Business Development.
David Streatfield joins as a director in Equity Finance Delta One Sales, based in Hong Kong and reporting to Adam York, head of Equity Finance and Delta One Sales for Asia Pacific. Streatfield was previously a director in Delta One, Synthetics, Swaps and Stock Lending Sales at Deutsche Bank, where he spent the past 10 years. He has also worked at Goldman Sachs and Citadel.
Adrian Harrison joins as a director in Prime Services Sales, based in Hong Kong and reporting to Matt Kiraly. Harrison was previously head of Investor Relations at Keywise Capital Management. Before that, he was executive director Business Development, China, at Goldman Sachs Asset Management from 2002 to 2009.
Prime Services has also made another appointment in the United States to support Americas-based clients active in international equity markets. Ted Langworthy joins as a director in Equity Finance Delta One Sales, based in New York and reporting to Warren McCormick, head of Equity Finance and Delta One for the Americas. Langworthy was previously at Deutsche Bank Securities in New York, where he was the head of Non-US Equity Financing for the Americas, distributing equity financing products to hedge funds. This hire follows the appointment of Paul Busby in July, who joined from Deutsche Bank Securities to deliver HSBCs Prime Services platform to Americas-based hedge fund clients.
