Simon Cooper, HSBC’s Group General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of HSBC in Korea, has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Bank Middle East Limited, subject to appropriate Board and regulatory approvals. Cooper will be succeeded as CEO of Korea by Matthew Deakin, subject to regulatory approval.
Cooper joined HSBC in 1989. Before moving to Korea in March 2006, he was the Managing Director and Head of Corporate and Investment Banking in Singapore.
Prior to that he was the Deputy Chief Executive and Head of Corporate and Investment Banking in Thailand. Cooper has extensive experience in corporate finance with the HSBC Group in London, Hong Kong and Singapore. He holds an MA in Law from the University of Cambridge.
Deakin is currently based in Panama leading the integration of Grupo Banistmo S.A. into the HSBC Group. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and has extensive experience in finance, corporate and institutional banking, commercial banking and planning. Deakin has worked in the UK, Mexico and Panama in his 20-year career with HSBC.
