Jonathan Howell, finance director of the London Stock Exchanges, is to leave the company to become finance director of Close Brothers Group plc.

Howell has been with the London Stock Exchange for over 11 years, and on the Board for eight years. He is expected to leave at the end of January 2008.

“Jonathan has been instrumental in the delivery of exceptionally strong shareholder value, developing the Exchange’s financial strategy and putting it to the forefront of the sector for balance sheet efficiency. We wish him well in his new role at Close Bros,” says Chris Gibson-Smith, the Exchanges chairman.

“Jonathan has played a central role in the Exchange’s transition from mutual organisation to highly successful public company. Having worked with him for over six years, I will miss his sound financial, commercial and strategic judgement,” adds Clara Furse, the Exchange’s CEO.

An external search for Jonathan’s successor is currently underway.
