The Prime Minister, on the recommendation of the Chancellor, has appointed Andrew Hudson as Managing Director (Public Services and Growth Directorate), HM Treasury.

Andrew Hudson is currently the Chief Executive, Valuation Office Agency. Andrew was previously Deputy Chief Executive of Essex County Council and spent the early part of his career at HM Treasury.

“I am delighted that Andrew is returning to the Treasury to lead on the planning and control of public spending. Andrew brings a wealth of experience and has a proven track record of delivery,” says Nicholas Macpherson, permanent secretary, HM Treasury.

The appointment will take effect in the second half of March.

Andrew Hudson, 50, is currently Chief Executive, Valuation Office Agency. Andrew was previously Deputy Chief Executive, Essex County Council (1999-2004) and has held a number of posts in HM Treasury and HM Revenues & Customs, including Press Secretary to the Chancellor and Head of the Health Spending team.

Andrew’s appointment followed a service-wide competition chaired by a Civil Service Commissioner. Following that process, the Permanent Secretary, who was on the interview panel, made his recommendation to the Prime Minister.
