BB&T, M&I Bank, TD Bank, and Zions Bancorp all took multiple honors in Greenwich Associates 2009 Middle Market Banking Excellence Awards, the results of which were released today. In total, 33 banks were recognized out of more than 750 evaluated by 13,000 U.S. companies interviewed by Greenwich Associates as part of its annual Middle Market Banking Study.

“In a year that was dominated by issues of credit availability and tougher lending standards, companies ranked BB&T, TD Bank and Zions Bancorp among the top banks in the nation in terms of credit policy,” says Greenwich Associates consultant Don Raftery. “Each was also recognized, along with SunTrust and a handful of other top performers, as among the top providers of treasury management services for middle market companies.”

“HSBC, Regions Bank, Citizens Bank, Synovus Financial, and Capital One Bank were also meaningfully better than the average when looking at key aspects of credit policy including: willingness to lend, flexible terms and conditions, responsiveness, and pricing,” says Greenwich Associates consultant Pete Garrison.

At the national level, Greenwich Associates releases Middle Market Banking Excellence Awards in 10 categories covering overall banking and treasury management. In addition, the Firm recognizes excellence in four regional segments in both the overall banking and treasury management categories.

“TD Bank and People’s United Bank (CT) demonstrated their regional strength by winning regional Excellence Awards for both overall middle market banking and treasury management in the Northeast, while BB&T was recognized for both Awards in the South,” says Greenwich Associates consultant Chris McDonnell. “They were joined by M&I Bank and Harris Bancorp, which won the Greenwich Middle Market Banking Excellence Awards for both overall banking and treasury management in the Midwest, as well as by Frost and Zions Bancorp and its affiliate banks, which earned the same honors in West Region.”
