The Goldman Sachs Group has chosen two chief operating officers who will answer directly to the firm’s new CEO.

Gary Cohn and Jon Winkelried have been given the nod by Goldman to aid Lloyd Blankfein as he steps into the role of outgoing Chairman and CEO Henry Paulson Jr.

Paulson is expected to leave the firm if confirmed by the US Senate to serve as President George W. Bush’s treasury secretary.

Cohn and Winkelreid will also sit on the firm’s board of directors.

They will also be joined by John Weinberg, who will serve as vice chairman for the firm.
