The results of the nineteenth Annual Survey of Hedge Fund Administrators (HFA Survey) organized by Global Custodian have been announced. Global Custodian, the leading publication covering financial administration, prime brokerage and custody businesses, highlighted the global growth in hedge fund administration and the benefits of global as well as local competition. “The hedge fund business is becoming ever more global, but can only keep evolving this way as long as administrators are in a position to provide the necessary support infrastructure. This year’s Survey shows just how successful they are” commented Robert Kay, Surveys’ Editor of Global Custodian. The Survey, provides an essential health check of the industry based on in excess of 1,000 individual responses evaluating services in eight core categories based on more than 30 individual questions. Responses were received for more than 40 individual providers ranging from global giants to niche players operating in a single jurisdiction.

The HFA Survey identifies excellence in administration as perceived by hedge fund clients. In each of the eight categories, three of the largest providers were identified for inclusion in the Roll of Honor. These awards reflect the breadth and depth of clients responding for particular providers as well as scores and comments received from those clients. A further two firms, smaller more specialist providers, were named as ‘Ones to Watch’. These Roll of Honor awards are highly prized by providers as the hallmark of excellence within the industry. They are widely used by hedge funds as a way to benchmark their own service provider and identifying new names to consider should they be contemplating adding to or changing to their list of providers.

The main winners in the 2014 Survey were Apex Fund Services and Citco, who each obtained four Roll of Honor mentions, with Apex receiving the largest number of responses overall. Multiple Roll of Honor mentions were received by Mitsibishi UFJ Fund Services, HSBC, Citi and SS&C GlobeOp. Among the Ones to Watch there were multiple mentions for five providers. The full results including details of all Roll of Honor and One to Watch mentions and relevant facts concerning participants in the Survey, are available today and can be accessed here.
