Global Custodian is pleased to announce that this year’s Lifetime Achievement honour to be handed out at our annual Leaders in Custody awards will go to Margaret Harwood-Jones of Standard Chartered.

A renowned figure and name in the securities services industry for almost 20 years, Harwood-Jones will receive one of our highest annual honours at the London event on 15 March.

Harwood-Jones has led Standard Chartered Bank’s global securities services business for almost two years, after heading up its investor and intermediaries division in Singapore for three years.

However, it is her extensive career and glowing reputation in securities services that has placed her at the very top of the industry.

Harwood-Jones served as one of BNP Paribas Securities Services’ top custody experts, leading its asset manager and institutional client segments for 10 years.

Prior to that she served as the deputy head of investor services for HSBC.

In July 2016, she oversaw the creation of a new securities services unit within the transaction banking department, bringing together Standard Chartered’s sales, product management, client management, and technology and operations teams for the securities services business.

Since the reshuffle, Harwood-Jones has led a number of the bank’s initiatives including promoting its digitisation strategy, such as the potential adoption of cloud technologies and artificial intelligence in securities services.  She has also been a leading figure in the development of blockchain and other distributed ledger technology (DLT) platforms in emerging markets.

Furthermore she helped foster Standard Chartered’s sub-custody offering for foreign investors accessing China’s Stock Connect and Bond Connect programme.

Finally she has been an advocate of encouraging millennials and a new generation of workers to join the securities services business, providing a fresher look for the industry.

It therefore gives us great please to award Margaret Harwood-Jones the Lifetime Achievement Award.
