Global Custodian is delighted to announce the winners of its prestigious annual Leaders in Custody awards, which took place at The Savoy, London last night.

The biggest winners from the evening were Deutsche Bank and SIX with three and four honours apiece, respectively, while BNY Mellon earned a major double victory for Global Custodian of the Year and Asset Servicing Deal of the Year, the latter for its landmark mandate with Aviva last year.

Standard Chartered, Raiffeisen Bank International and BNP Paribas also received two awards each throughout the Agent Banks Survey-related accolades.

The awards celebrate the very best that the securities services industry has to offer across four primary categories: stand-out performers from our Agent Banks in Major and Emerging Markets surveys, Editors’ Choice Awards and Innovation Awards

In our Editors’ Choice section, HSBC and Clearstream picked up Asset Servicing Partnership of the Year in a closely contested category, while SWIFT received Best New Asset Servicing Project for Securities View.

Digital Asset Initiative of the Year went to Digital Asset for its DAML Finance, and JP Morgan won the newly introduced category of Best Collateral Initiative of the Year – Tokenized Collateral Network – which had earned two nominations on the night.

Saphyre won the fiercely contested FinTech of the Year, rising above stellar contenders FundGuard, HQLAx and Proxymity, all of which have had impressive years by any measure.

CLS Group won Market Infrastructure Project of the Year following 12 months of significant developments from CLSNet, meanwhile Innovation awards were handed out to Broadridge, METACO, Proxymity, S&P Global, and Deutsche Bank.

Turning to the individual honours of the evening, former BNY Mellon CEO and industry veteran Todd Gibbons picked up the Lifetime Achievement gong, while Hannah Elson, global head of custody, JP Morgan, took home the Industry Person of the Year trophy, as voted by her peers on the night. The other nominees for the honour were Gabino Roche of Saphyre, Sam Riley of Clearstream and Sachin Mohindra of Goldman Sachs.

The other winners across our survey awards on the night were Intesa Sanpaolo, Piraeus Bank, DBS, Mizuho Bank, Erste Group Bank, National Bank of Egypt, Eurobank and UBS.

Global Custodian also inducted no fewer than five new Legends to our Hall of Fame this year, acknowledging the fantastic work that the recipients consistently do in our industry. The group joining our Hall of Fame are Bettina Janoschek, Anand Rengarajan, Sharon Hunt, John Lehner, and the late Jo Van de Velde, who was awarded the posthumous honour during the ceremony.

Congratulations to all of our winners, and thank you for helping to make it a truly memorable evening.
