Commodity hedge fund manager Global Advisors announced Wednesday the appointment of former PetroChina International trader William Fisher as portfolio manager.

Joining a five-member, front-office team, Fisher will be trading crude oil and refined products on European markets from the London office.

Rus Newton, Global Advisors co-principal and a former co-worker of Fisher at JP Morgan in the mid-1990s, said in a statement that Fisher will bring the company the right combination of industry experience and trading skills that commodities’ trading requires.

“Global Advisors uses a diversified strategy that focuses uniquely on two commodity complexes,” Newton said in the statement. “We believe that opportunities in energy and metal markets will remain abundant in coming months and have the team in place to respond efficiently to these opportunities.”

Prior to trading oil commodities for PetroChina International, Fisher spent five years at Phibro GmbH in London managing a proprietary oil trading book.
