Commodity hedge fund Global Advisors announced the appointment of William Fisher as portfolio manager.

Fisher will be based in Global Advisors’ London office and will be responsible for trading predominantly crude oil and refined products with an emphasis on European markets. Fisher joins Global Advisors’ front-office team which is currently made up of 5 analysts and portfolio managers based in London and New York, trading energy and metals markets world-wide.

Fisher has a long-established relationship with Global Advisors’ two principals Rus Newton and Danny Masters. Their working relationship dates back to the mid-1990’s when the three worked together (1994-1999) at JP Morgan; Masters as head of energy trading and Newton as commodities strategist.

Fisher has a sound background in oil trading. He joins Global Advisors from PetroChina International (London) where he was responsible for trading energy derivatives as well as developing hedging strategies for refining, oil production, and storage. Prior to that, he spent 5 years at Phibro GmbH (London) where he managed a proprietary oil trading book covering many aspects of the energy market.

Rus Newton, co-principal commented: “”We are delighted to have William on board. Global Advisors uses a diversified strategy that focuses uniquely on two commodity complexes: energy and metals. Our approach combines both technical and fundamental analysis as well as proprietary technology and in-the-trenches trading expertise. Over the years, William has acquired the right combination of industry expertise and trading skills that is required in commodities trading. We believe that opportunities in energy and metals markets will remain abundant in coming months and have the team in place to respond efficiently to these opportunities.”
