New report from FTSE Group delivers Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) members a benchmark for local and global equities.

FTSE MPF Index Performance Report compiles key statistics on performance of indices which tracks either local or global investment in equities allowed under the MPF Scheme.

The report also supplies MPF members with an additional tool for evaluating the performance of MPF-approved investment funds in a more user-friendly format. It provides performance data on all FTSE MPF indices on a monthly, three-month, six-month and one-year period.

According to the report, all FTSE MPF indices have performed negatively (-41% to -55%) for the one-year period, for the six-month period (-31 to -43), for the three-month period (-3% to -16%) and for the one-month (-2% to -11%) reflecting the overall downturn in the global markets.

Since the government announced that they may soon allow MPF members to choose their own MPF Scheme, it is important to have a common set of benchmarks for comparison to facilitate assessment of individual funds, says FTSE spokesman.

It is hoped that the report is useful as part of FTSEs continuing efforts to provide value-added information by making this information available on a monthly basis.
