Fortify Software, the application security provider for Business Software Assurance, continues to have stable position in the application security market. Bloor Research, in its Market Update on Application Security, placed Fortify Software as a “champion” in their Application Security overview. Further, analyst Nigel Stanley placed Fortify in the ideal position within the Bloor Bullseye.
According to the report Fortify’s ‘champion’ rating indicates an established vendor with a leading market presence. ‘Innovator’ status indicates a vendor with a highly rated product with increasing market share and a ‘challenger’ is an up and coming vendor in this market space.
Fortify’s own experience in the application security space mirrors the findings of the Bloor research, as they have seen a definite spike in demand for application security with an increase in the commercial business including FORTUNE 500 companies in financial services, healthcare, e-commerce, telecommunications, among others, as well as all three branches of the U.S. military and numerous federal civilian agencies. Many are now recognising that breaches are happening at the application level and are securing their systems with application security solutions such as Fortify 360.
Applications need to be secured during the software development process, not as an afterthought, says Nigel Stanley, analyst and author of the report, Bloor. Code security reviews must now form part of the rigorous checks development teams take during the daily build and software development life cycle (SDLC). Legislation and regulations are now catching up with the need to ensure application security and some standards, such as PCI DSS, the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards, explicitly demand that software code security checks take place.
The application security market will continue to grow for the foreseeable future, continues Nigel Stanley. Demand for application security products will increase in line with more legislation and regulations, as well as a desire for better overall corporate security hygiene.
