Former Watson Wyatt investment consultant Stephan Breban has launched City Capital Partners, a specialist private equity consultancy.
“City Capital was founded in response to the growing demand from pension scheme trustees and other fiduciaries, for independent advice in what is a very specialist field,” Breban said. “We believe that this need will continue to grow, not least as a result of the Myners and Morris reviews.”
City Capital’s focus is to provide private equity advice with respect to both fund of funds and the larger funds within the European buyout market.
Breban has led research into private equity within the UK pension fund industry for over 15 years and is a frequent speaker on private equity at industry conferences. His position in the private equity industry has led to discussions with both the Bank of England and the United Kingdom Treasury on how to promote investment in this area.
In his role at Watson Wyatt, Breban advised pension funds to invest several billion dollars into private equity investments.
He graduated from City University in 1988 with a BSc in Actuarial Science. He worked as an investment consultant for Watson Wyatt where he advised institutional clients on a wide range of subjects, including manager structures and strategy, investment manager selections, manager monitoring, and general investment consulting. Stephan pioneered Watson Wyatt’s research into alternative investments in the areas of private equity and hedge funds and he was one of the first UK investment consultants to speak at an AIMA Alternative Investment Conference in June 1998.
