Global Custodian Hall of Famer and Deutsche Bank’s former global head of agency securities lending, Tim Smollen, has started a new role at MUFG.

Based in New York, Smollen joined the Japanese bank as its global head for global securities lending solutions, beginning this week.

Smollen had spent over a decade at Deutsche Bank and was inducted into the GC Hall of Fame as a legend in 2013.

The role represented his second spell at the German bank, where he had also worked from 1998 to 2002.

Smollen was also global head of agency securities lending at Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein for seven and a half years, and also EMEA head of securities lending at Chase Manhatten in London for nearly four years in the early 90s.

In a goodbye post on LinkedIn, Smollen thanked his former employer and said “In spite of all the headlines DB was a great place to work – a firm that fostered a spirit of entrepreneurship and cross business teamwork that is rare in most large financial institutions.”

He added that he looked forward to working with a management team at MUFG whose “vision and leadership is inspiring”.
