Foreign investors are helping to drive securities trading in Denmark to new highs. According to the Danish CSD, VP, more than 1 million securities trades took place in Denmark in March. Share trading reached the second highest level ever, with foreign investors in particular increasing their share of activity.
According to the VP, the foreign investors’ share of securities trades rose to 34 per cent of the total number of trade transactions in March. This is the highest proportion ever registered. Foreign investors primarily bought shares in the industrial and financial segments.
Trading in unit trust certificates contributed to the increased turnover in March.
Compared to March 2005, the total number of securities trades rose 64 per cent to 1,021,300 trades. The number of trades in Danish shares increased 56 per cent to 646,600 trades. The number of trades in unit trust certificates rose 121 per cent to 276,000 trades.
The number of trades in Danish bonds was at the same level as last month, or 98,700 trades.
