Robert Pozen has been elected to the Boards of Directors of The Bank of New York Company, Inc. and its principal subsidiary, The Bank of New York, effective from 8 March 2004.
Pozen is currently the John Olin Visiting Professor at Harvard Law School, where he teaches law and business courses on corporate governance and financial institutions. He is the former vice chairman of Fidelity Investments and was president of Fidelity Management & Research Company, the investment advisor to the Fidelity mutual funds. Pozen’s career at Fidelity also included serving as managing director and general counsel of Fidelity Investments, where he was responsible for its government relations, legislation and litigation worldwide and spearheaded Fidelity’s entry into the Japanese mutual fund business. He also served as director of Fidelity’s credit card bank, its life insurance company and its Canadian investment management business.
Pozen has held several positions with government and regulatory agencies, including serving as associate general counsel to the Securities and Exchange Commission. He served on the President’s Commission to Strengthen Social Security and was Secretary of Economic Affairs for Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney. In addition, he led the banking and securities department at the Washington, D.C.-based law firm Caplin & Drysdale and taught law at New York University. He received a B.A. from Harvard College and a J.D. from Yale Law School, where he was a member of the Editorial Board of the Yale Law Journal.
