Euroclear has further tightened its grip on the former French CSD SICOVAM by replacing Euroclear France CEO Jol Mrre with one of its own, Pierre Slechten. The change takes effect from 1 March 2006.

Mrre is to become Executive Director in charge of International Public Policy, reporting to Pierre Francotte, CEO of Euroclear SA/NV. Euroclear explains that this will “allow Mr Mrre to devote more of his attention to Euroclear group issues in the area of public policy.” Mrre remains a member of the Euroclear Executive Committee, and becomes Vice Chairman of the Euroclear France Board of Directors.

Pierre Slechten, currently Managing Director and head of the Product Management Division at Euroclear SA/NV, is already a Euroclear France Board member. Pierre Yves Goemans, currently Director of Marketing and Sales Support in Euroclear’s Commercial Division, will replace Slechten as Managing Director and head of Product Management.

Francotte says the change of role for Joel Merere reflects the importance Euroclear attaches to building a single settlement infrastructure for Europe. “Jol Mrre, who already plays an active role in Euroclear’s public affairs activities and in various settlement-industry associations, will lead the group’s accelerated efforts in this domain, further leveraging our industry leadership and experience,” he says. “We are equally confident that Pierre Slechten, who is frequently in Paris for product management and Euronext-zone platform-consolidation purposes, will further strengthen Euroclear France’s ability to meet the needs of the French marketplace. We also welcome the broad senior executive experience that Pierre Yves Goemans brings to the Euroclear group, which has already been evidenced during his short time with us.”
