Euroclear Bank has expanded its range of settlement currencies to 51, with the addition of nine currencies. Effective immediately, Euroclear Bank clients will be able to select the currencies listed below to settle securities transactions and for money transfer purposes.
New settlement currencies
Bulgarian Lev (BGN) Jordanian Dinar (JOD) Kenyan Shilling (KES) Mauritian Rupee (MUR) Namibian Dollar (NAD) Nigerian Naira (NGN) Omani Rial (OMR) Tunisian Dinar (TND) Uruguayan Peso (UYU)
Investors in Eurobonds issued, or to be issued, in Africa, the Middle East and Eastern Europe, now will be able to settle securities transactions in many more local currencies. Client demand for these settlement currencies is strong as evidenced, for example, by Euroclear Banks recent acceptance of the UAE Dirham. Since its introduction as a settlement currency by Euroclear Bank in February 2008, we now settle around 40% of Dirham-denominated Eurobonds in Dirhams, says Luc Vantomme, managing director and head of Network Management and Banking, Euroclear.
