Equinix, the global data center service provider, plans to build a new International Business Exchange data center in Zurich and expand one of its existing data centers in Geneva as client demand for secure data centers in Switzerland grows.
Equinix data centers are used by financial services and other firms to provide secure information safeguarding, collocation services and connectivity to more than 690 networks.
In Geneva, Equinix is adding 720 square meters of new customer space to its GV2 data center after the first phase of the center was sold out. Its ZH5 center, located near the Zurich city center, will be completed in the fourth quarter of 2012 and provide about 6,670 square meters of customer floor space.
In both centers, Equinix customers will be able to connect to more than 4,000 potential partners, prospects and suppliers via Platform Equinix, which has grown following demand in financial services, cloud and enterprises.
We continuously endeavor to expand our state-of-the art IBXs across the globe to ensure our customers have the infrastructure to grow at their own pace, says Marco Dottarelli, managing director of Equinix Switzerland. The expansion in Switzerland underlines Equinixs leadership in the market in terms of connectivity, ecosystems and security.
