The Dutch financial markets regulator said this week that a watchdog investigation indicated that investment funds in the country failed to sufficiently protect the interests of investor, Reuters reported.

The Authority for Financial Markets said in a report that a probe conducted over the last year showed investment funds fell short of requirements for transparency. The probe also raised questions about the adequacy of governance and accounting.

But the regulator emphasized that the suspected failures in the Dutch fund industry were not comparable with a scandal related to mutual fund trading abuses in the United States that has resulted in enormous fines.
