The Independent Financial Centre of the Americas, the new offshore financial center in the Dominica Republic, has unveiled its architectural masterplan It is designed by architect Bernard Tschumi.

The scale model of the design, which was unveiled at La Biennale 10th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice, can be viewed online.

The Independent Financial Centre of the Americas will be constructed on the southern coastline of the Dominican Republic, and aims to provide a state-of the-art environment for private and commercial banking and the region’s first international electronic exchange, called LAIFEX, to clear and settle emerging market debt and other tradable products. Completion of construction is scheduled for 2010.

“Bernard Tschumi has completely understood the vision of this project and his conceptual plan is an exciting re-invention of the workplace,” says Gaetan Bucher, the CEO of the Independent Financial Centre of the Americas.

“We are developing a new city, from scratch, on a site as large as the southern half of Manhattan,” adds Bernard Tschumi. “It is an ‘elliptic city’ that plays on the landscape, is sympathetic to the contextual environment, yet provides all the functionality of a highly sophisticated, modern financial centre. It is local on the outside; global on the inside.”
