Deutsche Bank has appointed Stuart Smith as a Managing Director and Head of Corporate Commodity Sales for Asia ex-Japan. Dr Smith joins from JP Morgan where he was an Executive Director, Energy Sales – Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia.

Dr Smith, whose appointment is effective immediately, is based in Singapore and reports regionally to Venky Vishwanathan and Daniel Mamadou, Co-Heads of Corporate Coverage and Debt Capital Markets for Asia ex-Japan, and globally to Brian Cumming, Global Head of Oil Sales and Origination.

Mr Vishwanathan, said: “Stuart’s broad range of industry and financial services experience strengthens our coverage capabilities at a time when demand for our commodity-linked financing, leasing and inventory monetization products in Asia continues to grow.”

At JP Morgan, Dr Smith was responsible for corporate energy coverage for Australasia and South East Asia. Prior to this, he was an Executive Director and Head of LNG Trading at Goldman Sachs in London, where he established the bank’s LNG spot trading business. Dr Smith began his career with Shell, where he worked in a number of roles across LNG sales, trading and marketing.

Dr Smith holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) from the University of Southampton and a PhD in Petroleum Geology and Geophysics from the University of Adelaide.
