Deutsche Bank has begun the complete reconstruction of its two 155 metre tall towers at Frankfurt’s Taunusanlage 12.
At the focus of the renovation is an environmentally-friendly, energy conscious building with a forward-looking interior design concept for employees and clients.
“The Management Board decided in favour of a complete modernisation of the building. Based on our commitment to sustainability, our aim is to make an active contribution to environmental protection, by reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions in the building by at least 50%,” says Hermann-Josef Lamberti, member of Deutsche Bank’s Management Board and Group Executive Committee.
The towers will be equipped with completely new air conditioning, water and lighting technology. New glass panes with windows that can be opened will further improve the energy balance. In the future, employees and clients will find themselves in a modern interior in the new towers. The building will be given a newly designed foyer, larger conference rooms and flexible office space.
The bank has commissioned the Milanese architect, Mario Bellini, with the interior design. As a designer, Bellini has worked for names such as Olivetti, Cassina, B&B, Vitra, Rosenthal and Yamaha. The Museum of Modern Art in New York dedicated a major personal exhibition to him in 1987. And as an architect, Bellini has designed buildings such as the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne; the trade fair in Essen; and the Museum of Islamic Art, which is currently under construction in the Louvre, Paris.
During the past few months, all the approximately 2,500 employees and the Management Board have moved out of Taunusanlage 12 and into other offices in Frankfurt. New building and fire-safety regulations were what made it necessary to renovate the building that the bank moved into in 1984. The bank estimates the extensive construction work for what is Europe’s largest office tower renovation will take two and a half years to complete.
The relocation back to the building at Taunusanlage 12 is scheduled for summer 2010.
