Chancellor of the Exchequer Alistair Darling said today he would not extend the UK’s guarantee of bank deposits to the Isle of Man and raised doubts about financial ties with the offshore haven, according to the Financial Times.

Speaking before the Treasury Select committee, Darling said the government should not guarantee deposits on the island, even as UK citizens many of whom put their money in the offshore arm of Kaupthing Bank clamored for more security.
