Dalton Strategic Partnership has expanded its business by entering the UK institutional pensions market, with 130million new assets under management.

Since January 2005 the company has grown from 500 million to 2 billion as of 24 January 2007. DSP manages special regional equity funds that invest in major developed markets and some emerging markets. Frances Davies will head DSP’s entry into the UK pensions market. Before he joined DSP he was head of the global institutional business and UK pension funds at Gartmore.

Tom McIntosh will be in charge of client relationship. McIntosh has 30 years of experience with UK pension funds. He built King & Shaxson Asset Management and Swill Life Asset Management.

Andrew Wilson will manage the fixed interest and cash components of the UK balanced pensions. Wilson has managed fixed income portfolios since 1986. Previously, he was an investment manager at Pilkington. “The launch of our UK pensions business is a natural development for us,” says Andrew Dalton, managing partner at DSP. “DSP’s investment style is to target high alpha returns by employing experienced managers who construct relatively concentrated portfolios across the full capitalization range. We believe our investment style is well-suited to UK pension funds where trustees have begun to seek more active managers that can deliver enhanced returns relative to their benchmarks. Driven by the increasing need to review their benchmarks in the light of FRS17, Trustees have become more active in reviewing their choice of managers. We see this as a tremendous opportunity given our managers’ exceptional track records”.
