Patrick Curtin, head of American securities initiatives at SWIFT, is leaving the company to join Citi as head of North American securities and fund service sales. His departure will be effective 30 April 2010.

Curtin will report to Richard Ernesti, global head of Client and Sales Management for Investors, Global Transaction Services, Citi.

In a statement from SWIFT, Curtin said, I have really enjoyed my time at SWIFT, but I have missed transaction banking, which is where I plan to return. SWIFT is a great organization and I have been impressed with the high level of expertise and dedication. I wish it well for the future.

Curtin joined SWIFT in February 2009, after 12 years at The Bank of New York Mellon. The appointment was a significant scoop for SWIFT, with Curtin a prominent figure in the securities servicing industry.

His prompt departure after just a year of leading SWIFT’s drive into the American market will be seen by many as a significant blow, especially to a business arm that has seen previous surprise resignations. In 2007, James Donovan, then head of the securities industry division, quit abruptly after attempting to re-haul the division.

Angus Fletcher, head of Post Trade Services, and Sophie Bertin, head of Asset Servicing and Custodians will act as co-heads of the SWIFT Securities Marketing team.
