The Conifer Group, LLC named Peter OConnellwho was the president and founder of Conifer Fund Services offshore fund administration businessas its chief financial officer, Douglas Lang as president of Conifer Fund Services and David Bateman as director and head of Conifer Fund Services, British Virgin Islands.
This executive reorganization comes as Conifer embarks on a period of expansion designed to further meet the evolving needs of the hedge fund industry.
Peter, Doug and David have each been instrumental in the growth of our fund administration business over the last few years as the industry has raised the bar for stronger infrastructure support, says Jack McDonald, president and CEO of The Conifer Group, LLC. Their years of experience and expertise in the alternatives market are valuable resources for us to leverage as we further reshape our business to meet the new market paradigm.
Before his appointment, OConnell led all of Conifers Fund Services business after establishing the groups offshore Tortola, British Virgin Islands office in 2006. A qualified chartered accountant, OConnell possesses a strong background in corporate finance, having served as a financial controller and finance director at other companies. He will be based out of Conifers headquarters in San Francisco.
Lang joined Conifer in 2010 as head of US fund administration, where he oversaw middle- and back-office servicing for more than 100 hedge fund clients. Before joining Conifer, Lang spent more than 10 years with Butterfield Fulcrum Group, where he served as a managing director as well as a head of fund administration for its fund services business.
Bateman joined Conifers British Virgin Islands office in 2008 from UBS Fund Services, where he spent three years as a fund administration manager for its Irish operations. With more than a decade of experience in the offshore financial services industry, Bateman previously held roles at Bank of America and Deloitte & Touches Cayman operations.
With this new leadership team in place, Conifer is in an even stronger position as the hedge fund industry undergoes further change in light of regulation, the expanding need for transparency and growing acceptance of cloud-based, managed services, McDonald says.
