Computershare, the Australia-based securities registry business, has been selected by China Securities Depository and Clearing Corporation Limited (CSD & C)to advise it on improving the Chinese securities registration service. A team from Computershare led by Stuart Crosby, Asia Pacific MD, started work in Beijing on 19 August, investigating ways to help SD&C raise its registration business to international standards.

“Computershare has a strong commitment to doing all it can to help in the development of the Chinese securities markets,” says Crosby. “Computershare has been involved in the Chinese markets since 1999 and our Hong Kong subsidiary Computershare Hong Kong Investor Services Limited (a joint venture with Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited) recently handled the IPO registration of BOC Hong Kong (Holdings) Limited in which nearly 400,000 Hong Kong investors applied for and received shares. At a personal level, since I first became involved in the Chinese securities markets more than 10 years ago, I have had an ever growing admiration for China’s achievements. SD&C already handles more than 68 million investor accounts very effectively. We look forward to providing a global perspective to their planning for the future.”

“CSD&C is the sole national securities depository, clearing and registration company. It has built an effective business process system and achieved securities dematerialization and STP in clearing, settlement, registration and custody service,” adds Liu Chunxu, Deputy General Manager, CSD& C. “In order to standardize our business in accordance with international practice, we invited Computershare, the largest global registry service provider, to provide consultative service for us, and we believe with their expertise and experience, they will bring us valuable advice in this business.”
