Derivatives exchange CME Group averaged 12.5 million contracts per day in October, 80 percent of which were electronic trades. The figure represents a roughly 10 percent jump over 2007 figures.

On its ClearPort, OTC trades are up 65 percent on the year, while equity volume is up 83 percent on the E-mini index.

The interest rate products, however, decreased by almost 20 percent since 2000, reflecting greater market trends. There were 5.6 million trades in October 2007 and just 4.6 million such trades in October of this year.
